Do I have to notify the probate court that my father has died?

My father ped away and left a will (notarized) in California. I am his only surviving family. He has no other friends or family. He left everything to me in his will. His only et is his house and the furniture that is in it. The house is probably worth about 90 grand. The house/property is held in joint tenancy (him and me). All of his bills are paid and he owes nothing. So my question is, do I still need to contact probate court? If I don't, what are the penalties, if there are any.
