Good explanation for the quote, "Love truth, but pardon error."?

For the school paper, I am to give my favorite quote and why. The Voltaire quote, "Love truth, but pardon error," is my favorite, but I still need a good explanation for it. I was thinking something about doing good and forgiveness. I want it to be very insightful. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
