Looking for alternative to a chair rail.?

I'm going to be re-doing one of my bedrooms with high cathedral ceilings, and when I paint I want to do shades of green, darker on the bottom, and lighter on top (as if above a chair rail.) But I don't really want to use a chair rail, can anyone think of any other alternatives?
